BLACK CURRAWONG FACTS

Description
Large bird with a black body, white-tipped tail feathers and white patches on the inside of the wing. Heavy beak and bright yellow eyes. 49 cm total length.

The Black Currawong is endemic to Tasmania. It is a loud and vocal species often heard at dusk and dawn. They can occur singularly, in pairs or in large flocks throughout winter. Roosts and breeds in the tree canopy, but spends most of its time foraging on the ground.

Sub-alpine forest, woodlands, heathlands, coastal heath and agricultural land.
