Cairns Wildlife Dome, Cairns Reef Hotel

Cairns Wildlife Dome is an undercover wildlife attraction built on top of the Cairns Reef Hotel Casino. The exhibit is covered by a twenty metre high glass dome.

This attraction just gives you a brief introduction to the rainforest and you can see a few of the rainforest birds and animals but to experience the rainforest and the wildlife you need to get yourself outdoors and into the national parks to see the spectacular beauty of the area.

The dome has a free flight aviary with parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets and pigeons, and some wallabies roaming freely through their enclosure. There are also Bettongs. Other birds and animals on display include frogmouths, kookaburras, freshwater crocodiles, lizards, turtles, snakes and frogs. There is a viewing area for observing the Saltwater Crocodile underwater.

Complimentary guided tours and rainforest presentations are conducted throughout the day. There is a gift shop at the entrance. Koala Photos are available on request on the shop level (additional cost).

The Cairns Wildlife Dome opened in 2003, was purchased by Pip and Charles Woodward in 2005. The Woodward family own and operated a number of tourist attractions in the region such as Rainforestation Nature Park and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.

Cairns Wildlife Dome is located on at the corner of Wharf and Abbott Streets, next to the Cairns Convention Centre. Access to the Dome is from the lifts in the Reef Hotel Casino foyer. Opening hours are 9am to 6pm. Daily except Christmas Day ( 9am – 5:30pm on other Public holidays). Tickets are valid for re-entry any time for the next four days from purchase.
