FISH FACTS

Description
The Latticed Butterflyfish is yellow body with black scale edges that form a cross hatched or lattice pattern. There is a black bar through the eye and a black band on the rear of the dorsal fin. The tail is yellow with a black bar. There is sometimes a dark black spot on the dorsal fin.

Size
length to 18cm

Habitat
Uncommon. Found in coral reef lagoons, reef flats, seaward reefs at depths from 1m to 15m. Often seen in pairs or as solitary individuals.

Food
sea anemones, polychaetes, coral polyps

Breeding
Oviparous. Forms pairs during breeding.

Range
The Latticed Butterflyfish is found in tropical marine waters of the Indo-West and Central Pacific. In Australia it is known from off north-western coast of Western Australia and along the length of the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland
