INSECT FACTS

Identification
The male Australian Painted Lady butterfly has black forewing tips spotted with white. The female has browner tips on the forewings. The male has orange hindwings with dark margin. The female has marbled hindwings with small eyespots on the underside.

Size
Length 43mm - 47mm

Habitat
found in wide range of habitats including woodland, scrub, mountainous regions, semi-arid areas, farmland, suburban gardens

Food
larva feed on a variety of plant species including Ammobium, Bractaeantha, Helichrysum, Rhodanthe

Range
found throughout New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland except Cape York Peninsula, south west parts of western Australia, southern parts of Northern Territory
